“Students Taking Action Reach Success” embodies our belief that when we empower students to take an active role in their learning process and their education, they will achieve successful outcomes.
We believe in the team approach to supporting students, and will collaborate with home and school to develop a tutoring/coaching plan that supports students in achieving their goals across environments.
We offer a variety of services, including:
- Individualized instructional programs
- Executive function skill building
- Study skills classes
- Parent and teacher training
- Collaborative team approach to tutoring, involving student, parents and teachers
- Peer tutoring and after school supported study hall programs
When your child is “in session”
Please feel free to relax in our waiting room or do some errands in Freeport. If you leave STARS during your child’s tutoring time, please return ten minutes before your child’s session ends so the tutor has an opportunity to check in with you and review the session. If you are late returning, your child’s tutor may not have a chance to check in with you, as they may be working with another student. If you wait in the waiting room, please be mindful of other families and take cell phone calls outside. Also, please be considerate of our students working, and of our neighbors at Fine Lines Construction and use “library voices” while in the building.
Using our library books
Many parents spend their child’s tutoring time reading one of the books on our library shelf. We encourage you to browse through what we have, and borrow anything that might be helpful or interesting to you. We ask you to borrow only one book at a time and to return any book you borrow within a week or two so other families have access to it. If you are looking for a book that we don’t have on our shelf, please ask about it. We are always looking to expand the resources available for our families, and if you are interested in a specific book, chances are it would be of interest to other families as well.
Please check the bulletin board in the waiting room for notices about upcoming educational events at STARS or in the community. If you hear of a seminar or speaker that may be of interest to STARS families, please let us know and we can post it on the board.
We are always interested in your questions and thoughts. Please contact us anytime to set up a meeting or phone conference if you have something to share. We are so pleased to have you as part of our STARS community and look forward to partnering with you on behalf of your child!
